No one is prepared for their life to change in an instant... No one!

No one is prepared for their life to change in an instant… No one! This is clear, but the reality is that unexpected events happen, whether it’s a diagnosis, an accident, or a calamity, sometimes resulting in the physical or mental limitation of a loved one.

Personally, I know how this situation affects family dynamics and brings about very intense emotions such as sadness, restlessness, and even anger. In fact, the first instinct is to put life on hold while trying to create a routine where one can take care of almost everything.

However, the real issue is that, even though at that moment you’re doing your best, sooner or later you’ll have to seek professional help. If you’ve reached this point, it’s because you believe it’s time to provide your family member with the comprehensive assistance that only a professional can provide.

If I'm telling you this, it's because I've lived through it myself.

My name is Lennart Portela, and in May 2016, my grandmother was diagnosed with dementia.

That being said, let’s take a step back for a moment.

I graduated as a nurse in 2015, and from the beginning, I worked for a hospice
company, assisting and helping patients mitigate symptoms related to their
diagnosis, all from the comfort of their homes.

During this time, I was able to observe the need that most of these patients had for someone to assist them with basic household tasks, such as hygiene, meal
preparation, bathing, among others.

Taking this decision is not easy because at this moment you:

Have your life on hold,

trying to create a routine to do everything yourself.

Feel stressed, worried

and even fear due to the possibility that your family member's condition may worsen.

You want to do it all.

because you feel it's your duty, but you're also aware of the need to maintain your health and energy

Your head is full of doubts

and you worry about how to take care of your loved one without neglecting your other responsibilities.

If you add to all of this that you feel overwhelmed, worried, and sometimes even guilty, despite being aware that you’re doing your best, you’re immersed in an emotional whirlwind from which you don’t know how to escape.

From there comes
